Women Militia Members Safeguard Islands in E China's Zhejia

TRAVEL 2020/12/16 11:15

The women militia post of Leigong Mountain was set up in 1991. It is the first militia post made up by university students in the country.

Situated at the top of Leigong Mountain with height of 135.8 meters, 36 kilometers away from the downtown, the sentry post is guarded by seven to nine women militia members in their 20s all the year round.

The sentry post used to be struck by storms and the road to get there was blocked by heavy snow, however, it couldn’t scare away the young women militia members.

Zhou Anna, 27 years old, is the fourth chief of Leigong Mountain sentry post. She and her team members need to observe the range of about 10 nautical miles a day. Besides observing the passing ships and aerial situations, they also need to observe the status of some islands.

The young and glorious team has won a number of awards for their devotion and professional skills.

In early 2019, the sentry post was approved as one of the CPC education base for women by the Women's Federation of Wenling City. Now, the sentry post is a site to learn the history of the sentry post and to experience the life there.
